Equinox means "equal night". Because the sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are equal in length all over the world during the equinoxes. This time of equality between day and night has been, and continues to be, a timekeeper, marking our transition from darkness and cold to warmth and light. It is the time to slough off the heavy winter energies, release any limiting beliefs and prepare for the power of the psychic New Year that occurs at Halloween, when new goals and resolutions are set.

To our elders, these times, were markers in which soil would be turned and seeds would be planted. There were rituals and invocations for abundance of the new crops and celebrations during the harvest. In natures context spring is a time of sowing, fertility and growth. For us
it is a time of new hopes, new beginnings, new relationships and life changes. The equinox energy creates the impetus for change and
growth, a time to abandon limitation and affirm abundance.
